PEDIATRIC SAFETY GUIDLINES
Although millions of parents have safely used pediatric cold and cough medicine
for years, there have been concerns related to improper dosing when administering
to small children. In 2008 the FDA issued a public health advisory instructing parents
not to use oral pediatric cough and cold medicines in children under the age of
two. OTC oral pediatric cough and cold medicines are still available to help relieve
cough and cold symptoms in children ages 4 and older.
The FDA has requested further studies to confirm the proper use and dosing in young
children and the makers of these medicines have committed to working with FDA to
reaffirm the efficacy and appropriate dosing of these medicines in children.
SymptomPak™ is designed only for use in children ages 6 and older. As more
information becomes available, Essential Home OTCs LLC will carefully consider developing
a Pediatric SymptomPak™ designed for younger children.
